To Whom It May Concern:

The siege has gone against us, the battle is slowly turning. The British have attempted to break down our city, but little has been accomplished. However, it is not the British but hunger and disease that are wreaking the most havoc among us. Our stores are already depleted as we look for any means of survival. I take solace in that my actions were brave and that we will make a final stand against these British cowards, but without the resources necessary it is only a hero's stand with little support beneath our feet. The British will surely raze this city rather than use it as their own; much like all of the French fortresses they have passed through, it is a shame as these walls have protected our city for fifty years now. At last I must say ado to this city, its people, and in final defense we will see the mettle of the British.
